Rock 2 Tree (Media Preview)

After weeks of planning, meetings, training and never ending weaving through everyone’s busy schedule, we finally managed to pull everyone together to execute the media shoot for our Rock 2 Tree project.

First we figured that not a lot of people know about slacklining and among the small slackline community in Singapore, perhaps only half of those would know what highlining is all about and maybe only a handful are crazy like me and the Ang Moh (Jordan) to actually want to pull it off in our little escape park, Dairy Farm. Looking around us, we could probably find a lot of place to highline, but only a few are actually legal to pull off such an act. So crazy ang moh and I spotted a nice spot in Dairy farm during our last outing where a slackline could be tied at about 25m high and what looks like about 10m long with good anchors on both sides.

The whole idea behind Rock 2 Tree protect was to pull off a multi sport project involving, trad climbing, tree climbing and slacklining. Both of us thought that this would be a pretty cool collaboration with the somewhat similar climbing community. We were so psych about the project that we took some time off one Sunday afternoon to climb the rock and the tree separation to check if its possible to rig the high line there.

It was all possible with good style too! We did not want add more bolts on The Nose and the tree had its well deserved trim after we found the dead branch still hanging on to the tree.

So off we go with shooting for the project with Charity Goh, Chuan, Azmi, Andrew and Marx. The whole idea was to put together some good highlining photos and a short trailer video to get people to know whats going on in Singapore slacklining scene. We were also very keen to put the photographers and videographers up somewhere in the air to shoot some action shots for the 2 days event.

End of the day, we had 7 more high liners added to our community. Jordan, Fal, Irham, Nick, Marx, Daniel and me had the chance to get on the line and have some hardcore fun, although most people who came around to support the project did not have a go at it but it was really important to have you people there with us!

At the end of the 2 days session, we’ve learn a lot of stuff and we are glad that all went well without any glitches except for the rain in the morning. Most importantly we got the slackline community in Singapore and did something together. It surely marked the start to more great projects in future.
